Description of the Program

One of the oldest trades but one of the most important in building any type of finished project is the field of carpentry. With a shortage of journeymen on the horizon the construction industry working along with CEF has developed a new two year commercial carpentry program. This new two year program is designed to help industry by providing knowledgeable and skilled trades people.

Commercial Carpentry I - General

Prerequisite: English or Spanish TABE Math or Applied Construction Math Class and English or Spanish TABE Reading Test & ESL Placement Test. Consists of 80 hours per semester - Course topics will include: Orientation to the Trade; Basic Safety; Basic Communication Skills; Introduction to Construction Math; Introduction to Hand & Power Tools; Hand and Power Tools; Building Materials, Fasteners, and Adhesives; Introduction to Construction Drawings; Introduction to Construction Drawings, Specifications and Layout; Floor Systems; Wall Systems; Ceiling Joist & Roof Framing; Introduction to Building Envelope Systems; Introduction to Basic Rigging; and Basic Stair Layout.
